Benugo - WC Facilities Refurbishment

Client

John Lewis Partnership

Location

London

Duration

4 weeks

Value

£190,000

Krypton Building Services was engaged to carry out an essential WC Facilities upgrade to the rooftop garden at the John Lewis Oxford Street store.

Project Profile

These works were delivered over a four-week programme, taking place in a highly constrained rooftop environment and involved both day and night working to meet programme requirements with minimal disruption to store operations.

The works formed part of a broader upgrade programme and required coordination with internal stakeholders and the client’s facilities team.

The works included:

  • Soft strip and rubbish clearance from rooftop plant zones
  • Isolation and reconfiguration of mechanical and electrical (M&E) services
  • Repairs to rooftop surfaces, penetrations, and local finishes
  • Reinstatement of any services or materials affected by the works
  • Day and night shift working to accommodate operational restrictions
  • Full compliance with CDM and client safety requirements

Challenge & Solution
To safely manage access on a restricted rooftop, Krypton implemented a detailed safety plan featuring fixed barriers, fall protection systems, and trained operatives. All personnel completed rooftop-specific inductions prior to mobilisation, ensuring the highest safety standards were met throughout the project.

Working within a live trading environment added further complexity, as operational continuity was a priority for the client. Krypton adopted a split-shift model—carrying out noisy or high-risk activities overnight and completing lighter reinstatement works during daytime hours. Daily coordination with store teams ensured smooth sequencing and minimal disruption to customers and staff.
